About our Nursery School Room

As you are aware, government places are free for your pre-school child but not compulsory. At Kidz Montessori Day Nursery we would like to offer parents an alternative option and give you the opportunity to take up a place at our nursery, with the added option of afternoon care till 6.15pm. This saves you the hassle of pick-ups and trying to seek out alternative care for your child once the nursery school day has finished. We welcome children from the Waterside, Eglinton and Limavady areas.
Our curriculum
The curriculum we follow in the Nursery Room will be the Pre-school Curricular Guidance. It is the same curriculum as is followed in government nursery schools. Mary-Joyce has a yearly planner looking at different areas of the curriculum e.g. early mathematics such as squares, rectangles and circles. However, we will also teach them about cubes, spheres and cuboids. 
Exciting science activities
The children start to look at how to write, sound out and spell their name while also looking at different phonic letters e.g. ‘s’, ‘a’ ‘t’ etc. We will work closely with them till they get to ‘x’, ‘y’ and ‘z’. They will also be doing different science activities such as mixing paint, melting and freezing water and taking care of the world around us by planting flowers in the spring.
Additional activities
Along with the normal curriculum, Mary-Joyce looks at a Montessori approach when it comes to encouraging children to be more independent. We teach them to cut their own fruit in the morning, colour boards and learn about the world. This is facilitated through water and land globes, talking about warmer and colder countries, the different animals that live in those countries etc.
One-to-one interaction with the children
Our nursery room can hold 16 children with a ratio of 1:8. However, the class is normally smaller. Therefore, the children get a greater chance of individual one-to-one time with Mary-Joyce.
